Why and How to Disable User Registration Signup in Joomla 2 versions 2.x

All versions of Joomla! 1.x and 2.x have been End-Of-Life since 2014 and should no longer be used on public/live websites and servers https://docs.joomla.org/Joomla!_CMS_versions

Why and How to Disable User Registration Signup in Joomla 2 versions 2.x

If your Joomla 2.x installation is for website management rather than community control
i.e. you do not operate an open forum and you have correctly denied comments on articles
then you should not allow random external users to simply register and sign up for accounts in your Joomla! instance Here are the steps to perform for disabling new user registrations in Joomla 2
  1. Log into your Joomla 2.x Admin Dashboard (backend)
  2. Click on the User Manager icon
  3. Click on the Options icon near the top right
  4. Select the Components tab
  5. Switch Allow User Registration to No
  6. Click "Save and Close"
Perform these steps and you will have disabled new user registrations (Your Joomla website will no longer have the register as a new user registration option).
